Tejano Loading 1

A reenactor portraying a Tejano (Texan of Mexican decent); removes his ramrod to pack his charge down the barrel of his musket at Palo Alto Battlefield National Historic Site. This was a living history demo to commemorate the 163rd anniversary of the battle.


As far as the impression goes I'm not exactly sure what sort of musket he's armed with. Never bothered to ask; should've though.

[EDIT] He is armed with a British Baker Rifle.



Many Tejanos at the time fought against Mexico during the US-Mexican War rather than fight their neighbors. The tragedy at the end though was that many of these Tejanos and certainly other people of Mexican decent in newly acquired regions that later became US states became second class citizens in lands they poured their blood sweat and tears into.




Palo Alto Battlefield is located just outside Brownsville, Texas and is totally free to the public. This is the ONLY national park dedicated solely to the Mexican American War. I encourage you all to go if you have the means too.
