Picketting Yuccas

Myself portraying a Mexican Soldado of the 4th Line Infantry Regiment in front of some yucca trees at Palo Alto Battlefield National Historic Park.

You'll notice that I'm not wearing that tall leather shako hat. Along with the shako, soldiers would be issued a hat called a "forage"/"barracks" cap. In the Mexican army these would match the colors of the tail coat I'd be wearing and would also have the regimental number on it, (which you can barely make out in the shadow from the top of the hat). That white band you see on my forehead is actually the liner of the cap which was coming apart from the inside. But I can tell you that this was way more comfortable than wearing a heavy shako.

The musket I'm armed with is an "India Pattern" British Brown Bess (.75 cal).
